In New Zealand, programs for senior drivers focus on awareness and skill-sharing, rather than formal "learner programs."
The Muray Driving School offers in-car coaching from aged 74+, while Age Concern NZ runs the Safe with Age courses for drivers over 55, providing road rules refreshers and safety awareness. Drivers over 75 are also subject to more frequent licence renewals and medical checks, which can be supported by these programs.
All bookings must be made in 1-hour block.
No cancellations are permitted within 6 hours of the scheduled lesson time.
Lessons cancelled within 6 hours may incur a 100% cancellation fee of the lesson price. Please provide as much notice as possible if you need to reschedule.
If a student wishes to cancel or reschedule a booking, they must contact the instructor at least 24 hours prior to the lesson.
Students to have proper footwear. Closed footwear must be worn during the lesson. Jandals, bare feet, or high heels are not permitted.
Students must present a valid Learner, Restricted, or Full Driver Licence before the lesson begins.
If a student wishes to use their own vehicle, it must have:
A current Warrant of Fitness (WoF)
Up-to-date registration
Vehicles that require Road User Charges (RUC) must have RUCs up to date.
If a lesson is conducted in the student's vehicle, the instructor reserves the right to cancel or terminate the lesson if the vehicle is deemed unsafe or unroadworthy.
